Hours
The Physical Therapy Department at St. James Mercy Hospital is open
Monday and Thursday 7:00am to 5:30pm
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7:00am to 4:30pm
The goal of physical therapy is to restore strength, mobility and function in individuals who have experienced a disability, illness, injury or surgery with return to prior home, work and leisure activities. The physical therapy department does a great deal of wound care, collaborating closely with the physicians to maximize the healing process. In addition, traditional therapy is given for
- Strains
- Sprains
- Back pain
- Tendonitis

- Weakness
- Impaired balance
- Gait deviations
- Evaluations for development of home exercise programs

Orthotic-Prosthetic Clinic
Creative Orthotics and Prosthetics has an orthotic-prosthetic clinic within our Physical Therapy Department every other Thursday afternoon. This is an outside service. Please call for further information.
The physical therapists work closely with the patients, their families and physicians to obtain the patient’s goals.

Physical Therapy – McAuley Manor at Mercycare
The Physical Therapy Department at McAuley Manor at Mercycare is open Monday–Friday from 7:00am–4:00pm. The caseload consists of nursing home residents, outpatients, and adult day care registrants. The maintenance and rehabilitation physical therapy programs consist of strengthening, ambulation, balance activities, and task-specific training based on each individual need, with differing levels of intensity between the two programs.
Physical Therapy’s goal is to restore and/or maximize strength, mobility and function in individuals who have experienced a disability, illness, injury or surgery with return to prior home, work and leisure activities as is feasible. Common involvements seen are lower extremity fractures, joint replacements, strokes, amputations, multiple sclerosis, and generalized debilitation due to multiple medical conditions.
Physical Therapists are also active in wound care and act as a resource to facility departments for consultations in regards to transfers, appropriate beds, wheelchairs and assistive devices.
Creative Orthotics and Prosthetics, an available outside service, provides onsite evaluations for residents’ orthotic and prosthetic needs.
Working as a team with all departments at McAuley Manor at Mercycare, Physical Therapy takes an active role in maximizing or restoring individuals’ independent functional ability.
