  About St. James Mercy
St. James Mercy Hospital

Founded in 1890, St. James Mercy Health System is comprised of St. James Mercy Hospital, McAuley Manor at Mercycare long-term care facility, and various clinics throughout the rural service area. St. James Mercy Health System has provided health care services to residents in the Hornell area for over 100 years. During this time, St. James Mercy has evolved from its humble beginnings in a small, rural farmhouse to the diverse and comprehensive system it is today. St. James Mercy has 259 beds, 120 of which are dedicated to long-term care, and provides a full range of services including emergency, acute medical and surgical, in-patient addiction treatment, long-term care, adult day care, and dialysis. Special services include cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation; physical, occupational and speech therapy; and diabetes education.

St. James Mercy remains committed to the mission on which we were founded "to being a transforming, healing presence within the rural communities we serve, particularly addressing the needs of the poor, underserved and disadvantaged." As members of a community of healing we have accepted as a way of living, core values that guide our behavior in delivering quality, compassionate health care.

Comprehensive hospital services include a state-of-the-art imaging department, 24 hour emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgical services. Over the past several years an emphasis has been placed on outpatient services and primary care. Our network of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide primary and specialty care to enhance access to health services for residents of our area. St. James Mercy Hospital also provides inpatient and outpatient addiction services.

Prevention and wellness programs have grown significantly in the past five years. St. James Mercy Health now serves as the lead agency for grant funded efforts under the auspices of the Cancer Services Program of Steuben County, which includes cancer screening.
